Advanced DCR Surgery
for Blocked Tear Ducts
Restore natural tear drainage and eliminate chronic eye watering or infection. Our specialists provide definitive solutions for tear duct obstructions through modern surgical techniques.
What is a Blocked Duct?
A blocked tear duct (Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction) prevents tears from draining normally into the nose. This leads to overflow tearing (epiphora), sticky discharge, and painful infections of the tear sac (Dacryocystitis). DCR surgery creates a new bypass channel for tears to drain effectively.
Restore Proper Drainage
Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is the gold-standard procedure for treating nasolacrimal blockages. At Revive Nursing Home, our surgeons specialize in creating a permanent opening between the tear sac and the nasal cavity, bypassing the obstruction and ending the cycle of chronic watering and infection.
- โ Elimination of constant tearing and discharge
- โ Prevention of recurrent tear sac infections
- โ Optional silicone intubation for enhanced long-term success
DCR Procedure Options
External DCR
The traditional and highly successful method involving a small, carefully placed incision on the side of the nose. It allows for the most direct visualization and robust bypass creation.
Endoscopic DCR
A minimally invasive approach performed entirely through the nose using a small camera. This method requires no external skin incisions and leaves no visible scarring.
DCR with Intubation
For complex cases, a tiny silicone tube (stent) is temporarily placed in the new channel for 6-12 weeks to ensure the bypass remains open during the healing process.
The Path to Dry Eyes
Syringing
We perform diagnostic syringing to confirm the location of the blockage.
Procedure
Surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia as a daycare case.
Recovery
Nasal packing (if used) is removed early, and tearing subsides within days.
